On May 14, 1948 – 6 p.m. in Washington, D.C. President Harry S. Truman made the decision to recognize the state of Israel. President Truman faced opposition from his Secretary of State George Marshall, his closet advisers, the United Nations and allies across the globe. Nearly seventy years later another President makes a similar decision.
