Aisha Yaqoob is running to represent the 97th House District in the Georgia House of Representatives. Aisha is muslim, an activist and the daughter of Pakistani immigrants.

According to Aisha’s website:

Aisha is a professional advocate for immigrant rights at the state Capitol, working with legislators on both sides of the aisle to push for civil rights for immigrants and people of color. As policy director for a nonprofit legal and advocacy center, Aisha monitors local, state, and federal policies that affect immigrants and works to fight for their rights.

Aisha is passionate about voting rights, access to healthcare and education, and immigration. She believes in upholding the civil rights and civil liberties for all people, especially those whom have been historically underrepresented.

On Aisha’s website it also states:

While in graduate school Aisha founded the Georgia Muslim Voter Project, an organization whose mission is to increase voter turnout in the American Muslim community. In 2016 she and her team helped to increase voter turnout across Georgia in a community that has historically rarely participated in the electoral process.

She earned a 40 Under 40 Georgia Muslim Award from the Islamic Speakers Bureau of Atlanta (October 2016) and the Rising Star Community Champion Award from Asian Americans Advancing Justice Atlanta (October 2016). In 2015, Aisha earned a commendation from the Georgia General Assembly for work in the Georgia Muslim Community.

On May 23rd Aisha won the primary election. In a recent Facebook post she wrote:

#TeamAisha is amazing! We did it. Thank you to my wonderful campaign team and volunteers for their hard work leading up to yesterday’s historic campaign victory. I am proud to be the Democratic nominee for the 97th House District and am fired up for the challenge come November.

To everyone that voted for me: thank you! Thank you for believing in this bright-eyed, first-time candidate. Thank you for taking a stand against hate and deciding that Gwinnett is ready for a change. Thank you for showing up!

This was TRULY a team victory and I owe it all to my friends, family, and volunteers for their tireless work. There is so much more work to be done and we will do it, together. We will run a grassroots, positive, and energetic campaign this fall!

If you’d like to join #TeamAisha, we’d love to have you! Sign up to volunteer on VoteAisha.com or donate to support our efforts in the coming months.

With lots of love and appreciation, Aisha

TUW Media Commentary Added:

This video in 2017  shows Aisha leading the “Social Justice” march.  What does that mean, she is obviously Sharia compliant with the hijab and full covering except her face.  “Social Justice” means she is part of the Red/Green alliance of Socialist/Communist beliefs and Sharia promoted as the way of life for all.   How does this enable her to be a State Representative or hold any political office?  Will she demand to be sworn in on a Quran?  Does she believe Sharia should be the law of the land?  Will she uphold Constitutional Law, both state & Federal?   Has ANYONE asked her these questions?
