ELLISON CAMPAIGN VISIT TO GRAND RAPIDS CANCELED DUE TO ‘SAFETY CONCERNS’

A campaign visit to the area from Attorney General candidate and Congressman Keith Ellison was canceled this week due to safety concerns, according to Itasca County DFL officials. The candidate was scheduled to make an appearance in Grand Rapids earlier this week.
According to a news release from the DFL party, for almost a week prior to the event, they were aware of the Itasca County Republicans and other local conservative activist groups planning a potentially violent protest in response to the event.
The release says,”members of local conservative groups promoted bringing racially charged signage and/ or wearing costumes mocking congressman Ellison’s Muslim faith” to the scheduled meet and greet event in Grand Rapids this week.

On the day before the event, they were made aware of a post on Twitter promoting the disruption of the planned campaign stop.
