Where Should Gazan Refugees Go?

A gathering chorus of voices is beginning to clamor for the United States (U.S.) to welcome into America thousands, perhaps more, Gazan civilians seeking to escape the coming Israeli ground assault against HAMAS, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, and other jihadis who perpetrated unspeakable atrocities against Israelis in early October 2023.

Let us be clear: there is absolutely no way to properly vet Gazans who may want to flee the Gaza Strip. Just as the wholesale Department of Defense airlift of tens of thousands of Afghans to the U.S. after the catastrophic 2021 withdrawal from Afghanistan has resettled people across America whose background and ideological loyalties were never checked, so it would be with these Gazans. We may feel sympathy for those among them who are simply frightened non-combatants, but without a thorough vetting process, we would never know if their mindset is appropriate for life in a Judeo-Christian society or if they are ready to pledge allegiance to our Constitution and forsake allegiance to any and all other legal systems, especially Islamic Law (shariah).

We should remember as well that after the HAMAS butchers had invaded Israeli communities and murdered hundreds of Jews, Gazan civilians flooded in behind them to add their abuse, including rape, to that of the jihadis and to engage in rampant looting of Jewish homes.

With this in mind, it is understandable that neighboring Arab countries like Egypt and Jordan are not especially eager to welcome a flood of Gazans into their societies either. Both of those nearby nations already have their hands full with a whole range of Islamic jihadist groups, including HAMAS (the Gaza branch of the Muslim Brotherhood), the Muslim Brotherhood itself, and the Islamic State.

The best policy for the U.S. would be to encourage Egypt to open the Rafah Crossing into Gaza for humanitarian assistance, carefully inspected before crossing, of course. The people of Gaza will have the chance to determine their own future once HAMAS and other jihadis are permanently removed.
