They are far from the same thing.
The Democrats continue to talk about how college “educated” women vote for Democrats. But are they “educated”. Or “schooled”. Does having a degree from Harvard or Yale mean educated? Or does it mean that someone got a degree by being a good test taker or taking very easy courses and forgetting everything after a test is taken?
I judge people by what they do and say.
“Education” used to mean opening one’s mind to all the richness of the world, the good and the bad, and developing the discernment to judge the difference.
Today’s university degrees designate anything from a glorified elitist trade school in some specialty or a generalized exposure to things that have no connection to real world issues and concerns, but feel good.
So every year we graduate people who are schooled, but not educated, and worse, those who stay in those schools and become lecturers and professors, in that protected hierarchy, becoming more and more schooled, learning how to get grants, and how to publish papers on things like the sex lives of transgender mice, and who think the biggest war in American History was Vietnam, and then take there very narrow area of expertise and claim to be experts on everything on MSNBC and ABC.
But are they educated. Do they employ any element of critical thinking. Do they know where Azerbaijan is? Or where people speak Fulani? Do they wonder why Miami and New York City did not get submerged as Former Vice President Al Gore predicted? Don’t count on it.
The key to being educated is asking questions, not accepting dogma because that is what what someone claims “everybody thinks”.
